Day 1: Lighthouse and eco cruising
Head to Mount William National Park. Climb wukalina / Mount William for a lofty view across the north-east and the islands beyond, and feel the fury of the sea at Eddystone Point Lighthouse.
Then settle back - you've earned it - on a Bay of Fires Eco Tours cruise along the beach-lined coast.
Stay overnight at the Bay of Fires Bush Retreat.
Day 2: Mountains to beach
Begin in breezy style mountain biking at St Helens Mountain Bike Trails, with trails for all skill and fitness levels.
After a morning carving the trails, let Salty Picnic Co. set up a luxury picnic for you. Organise ahead, and let them take care of the tasty local treats, tableware and cosy rugs for dining alfresco. Idyllic beaches for a picnic or a walk include Swimcart Beach, Binalong Bay Beach and Cosy Corner Beach.
In the afternoon, sip cool climate wines in a converted 1900's shearing shed at Priory Ridge Cineyard and Cellar Door.
For dinner, Bay of Fires Bush Retreat offers preprepared meals made by their in-house chefs if you book ahead, or there's locally sourced and seasonal produce at The Wharf Bar and Kitchen in St Helens (closed Wednesday and Thurday).
Day 3: Around St Helens
Pedal rather than paddle through the waters on a Hobie pedal-powered kayak trip with Secret River Tours in Georges Bay, Ansons Bay or the Scamander River. Fishing trips from the kayaks are also available.
Lunch on locally sourced produce at the East Coast Village Providore.
Step into the world of anacondas, pythons, Indian star tortoises and other exotic, captive-bred creatures at Serpentarium Wildlife Park, home also to natural gem displays.
Unwind with your libation of choice at family-owned brewery, vineyard and distillery Ironhouse Tasmania. Retire nearby to a self-contained villa at White Sands Estate – take advantage of the property’s swimming pool, canoe lake, tennis courts and cinema.
