Settle into island time.
Finding an empty beach is easy. Lay out a towel, settle in and enjoy the mountain views from the sand.
As time slows to the turn of the tides, walk the length of a beach. Explore a granite headland painted by nature. Snorkel in water as clear as air. Scale a mountain that rises direct from the sea. Find diamonds on a beach.
This is an island where every driver waves, and more than 120 beaches beckon. Hurry happens elsewhere.

The walks
Every beach is an invitation to wander, comb and explore. At Killiecrankie Bay fossick for topaz, known locally as Killiecrankie diamonds. And some of Tasmania’s best day walks are here: hike a loop around curious and colourful Trousers Point; scale the windy heights of the Strzelecki Peaks, the island’s highest mountain; and beach-hop to natural royalty at Castle Rock.
The wildlife
As dusk falls, you need only step out a door to find wallabies, wombats and Cape Barren geese for company. Slip on a snorkel and drift through marine marvels around Trousers Point and The Dock.
The produce
Dine on seafood and farm produce delivered to a wharf restaurant door by the fishermen and farmers. Work through the varietals at the island’s sole cellar door, and discover the peaty punch of an island whisky.
The history
Pause to feel the tragedy of Wybalenna, where Aboriginal people were exiled in the 19th century. And find treasures ranging from shipwreck relics to muttonbirding sheds at the island’s Furneaux Museum.
