Wallaby Walkabout Tours provides completely unique experiences that are all hosted by local historian, and Tasmanian Aboriginal historian, Geoff McLean. Geoff's Ye Olde Launceston history walks are an easy 2-hour journey through Launceston's wonderful history. Guests will see inside some of Launceston's significant heritage buildings. And hear the entertaining stories of the colourful characters who were some of the foundation builders of not just Launceston but also Melbourne. Geoff also has a comprehensive collection of photos, maps, and paintings that trace the development of the city. There is also a ghostly tale or two to be told, and discover the mystery building of Launceston! Wallaby Walkabout Tours' Cataract Gorge experiences provide an immersive experience that details the cultural and spiritual significance of this iconic location for Tasmanian Aboriginal people. Geoff has extensive knowledge of the deep time ancient origins of the Gorge and how a volcanic eruption was pivotal in its formation. Guests will also find about the geology, plants and animals (including tasting some) and the contemporary history of the Picnic Grounds/First Basin areas. And how beer played a pivotal role in the development of both. Guests will also explore some of the lesser known areas of the Gorge, such as Giants Grave with awesome views. They will also get to see and handle some of the artefacts Geoff has, including some space rock!
