Tarraleah Lodge is a small luxury hotel in the beautiful Tasmanian highland wilderness, only one and a half hours drive from Hobart, an ideal halfway point if driving to Strahan. The lodge is an original and fully restored 1930’s Art Deco building with nine deluxe suites featuring silk-filled doonas, king-size beds, heated floors, indulgent baths, and luxury toiletries. It also features a library, and lounge area with open fires, a 100 single malt whisky collection and a private dining room for group dinners and special occasions. Guests can indulge in an ultimate highland experience choosing from feeding the herd of Scottish Highland cows, whisky tasting, fly fishing, kayaking, mountain biking or simply exploring the areas many attractions such as the Wall in The Wilderness, Lake St Clair or Mt Field National Park. Tarraleah Lodge is part of the Tarraleah Estate, built to house those working on the pioneering Hydroelectric development in the 1930-1960s.

Tarraleah Estate is located in Tasmania’s central highlands, a two hour drive north-west of Hobart (127 kilometres), a perfect mid-point for those travelling to Strahan or Cradle Mountain. The private estate provides self-contained accommodation options featuring 16 Art Deco Cottages, a luxury Lodge, the Scholar’s House, The clifftop House, Highlander Cabins and Caravan Park. During their stay, guests can learn about Tarraleah’s intriguing Tasmanian history, built originally as a town to house families stationed there during the building of Tasmania’s Hydro-electric Scheme. The 1930's cottages have been fully refurbished keeping their original Art Deco design, warmth and charm. They feature Tasmanian-designed timber furniture, polished floorboards, warm fires, queen-size beds and a fully-equipped kitchen and dining areas. The Highlander Arms is open on select evenings for a dinner November to April so be sure to ring ahead and speak to one of our friendly staff to secure your booking for dinner. During their stay guests have a choice of a wide range of outdoor activities including bush walks, kayaking, fly fishing, mountain biking or just admiring our Highland Cows.

The Highland Caravan Park is situated on the halfway point of the Hobart to Strahan touring route. Open Dec - April (inclusive). It has 15 powered spacious sites, ample toilets and showers with hot water and a guest laundry. The Highlander Arms Tavern is open on select nights from Nov to April. Activities include kayaking, waterfall walks and mountain biking. Say hello to the highland cattle, go fishing with Australia's best guides or just get pointed in the right direction. Guests can enjoy golf (locally) or simply hang out with the ducks and goats. You can also spot a wombat and quolls plus over 80 bird species all on the 300-acre private Estate.
