Buttongrass Retreat
In the far south of Tasmania, the forest parts to reveal a spectacular open buttongrass plain. Your modern two bedroom self-contained cabin is a comfortable eco-experience with 12-volt solar electricity, wood fired heating and is free from distractions like television, wifi and in-room phones. You have exclusive occupancy; just one guest accommodation in a 20-hectare private reserve. Comfort and wildlife make Buttongrass Retreat the perfect place to base for exploring the natural beauty of Tasmania's far south. This habitat is home to a unique range of flowers, birds and animals, a community found nowhere else. The view to the Southern Ranges is spectacular and sometimes snow-capped. Under 2 hours drive from Hobart (just past Dover and Southport) this is a great base to explore the nearby Hastings Caves and Thermal Springs, or a short drive to Cockle Creek then walk to the southern-most place in Australia. Important: Buttongrass is a place to escape from the technology hassles of modern life for a few days. There is no television, limited 240-volt electricity, enough to charge a mobile phone or camera but not sufficient to run a laptop computer for more than an hour a day.
