Beaker Street - Mushroom Workshops @ Tunnel Hill

A woman walks in front of the opening of an old railway tunnel, now used to grow mushrooms
Explore the fascinating transformation of an abandoned Tasmanian railway tunnel into a thriving hub for growing gourmet mushrooms. Tunnel Hill Mushrooms founder Dean Smith will be joined by Tim Murch from West Tamar Fungi to teach you about the production process from lab to tunnel. You’ll also learn how to harvest mushrooms and prepare them for cooking — and you’ll even have a chance to mix your own straw mushroom logs to produce fresh mushrooms at home. As you hear about the epic history of the railway-tunnel-turned-mushroom-grow-room, you’ll also get the opportunity to pick and sample mushrooms, which Dean will grill up for you on his one-of-a-kind Train BBQ!
