Constructed in 1974, Gordon Dam is a double curved concrete arch dam standing at 140 metres. A walkway across the top of the dam offers spectacular views of Lake Gordon, which flows from the Gordon River. The water from Lake Gordon is used to generate hydroelectricity in Gordon Power Station, which sits 183 metres underground the South-West Wilderness. Hydro Tasmania has been generating renewable energy from Tasmania's abundant rain for over 100 years from the Gordon scheme and many others across Tasmania's Central Highlands, West Coast and Northern regions.
