Dance Macabre | Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra

A musician playing a saxophone and a conductor holding a baton.
The dead rise for a dance-off, the saxophone gets to shine and deals are made with devil. The Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra's 6pm Series kicks off in 2025 with pop-culture favourite Danse macabre and the world premiere of a concerto by Tasmanian saxophone maestro Jabra Latham. In Danse macabre, the TSO's Chief Conductor Eivind Aadland directs the orchestra in this wicked music from French composer Saint-Saëns. We’re closer to home when Jabra Latham breathes new life into the classical saxophone. The Tasmanian virtuoso knows the wind instrument like the back of his hand, and he wrote a concerto to showcase how beautifully the saxophone can sing. See and hear it glisten on the TSO's Federation Concert Hall stage. For the third part of the one-hour concert, Gounod’s Faust is ballet music about a man who gets a second chance at life after making a pact with the devil.
