Mole Creek
For natural wonders, little Mole Creek punches well above its weight.
Surrounded by some of Tasmania's most beautiful wilderness, it’s also home to some of the prettiest caves in the world.
With spectacular limestone formations, sparkling crystals and underground streams, the caves of Mole Creek National Park are havens for glow-worms and rare creatures that never see the light of day. The park contains more than 300 known caves, with ranger-led tours operating in Marakoopa and King Solomons caves.
Head out into the fresh air and visit Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary for memorable encounters with endemic animals, including Tasmanian devils. Or get active on several walking tracks near Mole Creek, such as the scenic Westmorland Falls trail and Alum Cliffs, which were once an ochre site for Tasmanian Aboriginal people.
Mole Creek is a great base for exploring the region, with good food and accommodation.

Mole Creek is a 55min drive (55km) south of Devonport and a 50min drive (73km) west of Launceston.
Insider tips
- Visit nearby Chudleigh, a village characterised by beautiful old oak trees, hawthorn hedges and historic buildings. The country show, held annually in February, is one of Australia’s oldest.
- Tap into local brewing excellence with a beer and a meal at the Wandering Trout Taphouse, at the western end of town.
