Nestled in private bushland on the same Berriedale peninsula as the world famous Museum of Old and New Art, Mona’s eight super-flash luxury pavilions are perfect for those who like their luxe accommodation to stimulate the brain as much as the indulgence-muscles. Each pavilion is unique, adorned with spenny artworks, contemporary bespoke furniture by Tasmanian designers, and furnishings from the likes of Philippe Starck, Patricia Urquiola and Ron Arad (plus the odd bit of pre-Columbian sculpture). As well as the usual trimmings—spas, great sheets, fluffy bathrobes, premo minibar, sweeping river views—guests receive a complimentary Moorilla wine tasting and daily breakfast in the lavish surrounds of the Source Restaurant. There are several other bars and restaurants on site, too. A stay in the pavilions also gets you priority access to Mona—a bucket-list Tasmanian destination that’s only made better by getting to gloat that you spent the weekend staying there as well.
