Your new Odd Job

Seeking a green thumb to commune with the grapevines in the role of Wine Whisperer. Winter is a crucial season on the vineyard, and we’re looking for an intuitive gardener – someone confident but not overzealous with the secateurs. Your meticulous pruning is essential to the future harvest. But to whisper to the vines, you must first listen to the wines – this job is part tending, part tasting. You’ll need to sip your way through Clover Hill’s full range to fully understand the connection between these sparkling wines and the climate.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the secrets of Clover Hill’s meticulous growing conditions and magical microclimate.
  • Sample the unique character of their sparkling wines, crafted in the méthode traditionelle.
  • Walk the rows and observe their plant needs – this is a ‘measure twice, cut once’ scenario.
  • Prime the vines for future growth, trimming the old to prepare for the new.
  • Leave no trace – compost your cuttings and help enrich the soil for future seasons.

Skills and attitude

  • A deep love and appreciation for winemaking and drinking.
  • Someone who thinks a day outdoors, pottering in the garden, is hard to beat.
  • Familiar and precise with their pruning techniques.
  • A sensitive palette, nose, and ear for effective wine whispering.
  • You just love wine. Love vineyards. Love drinking wine in vineyards. Did we say that already?

In return

  • A unique, one-day volunteer experience where you get to spend the day walking the vineyards, pruning the vines, and sampling the best Tasmanian wine from Clover Hill.
  • This experience will give you a break from the daily grind and a well-deserved wellbeing boost that Odd Jobs are set to provide.
  • The successful applicant will be compensated with flights to Tasmania, car hire, two nights’ accommodation, and a bounty of local artisanal goods for their time.
