Paddle with the Platypus Adventure
The Paddle with the Platypus experience operates every evening from mid-September to mid-May. Travel downstream by kayak through active platypus feeding pools along the picturesque River Derwent in the heart of Tasmania's Derwent Valley. Retrace the platypus's 100 million-year evolution, learn why and how they thrive on a 'secret' stretch of the River Derwent and watch them transform from shy to playful in their wild Tasmanian habitat. Assisted by soft currents of the River Derwent from Gretna to Bushy Park, enter through private farmlands and pause en route to enjoy a locally prepared tasting platter showcasing award-winning and often hand-picked fresh produce in the evenings. A perfect adventure for first-time paddlers, families and platypus enthusiasts looking for a VIP backstage pass to the Derwent Valley region. No prior kayak experience is necessary to participate and suitable for children 5 & up who can swim. Both single and tandem kayaks are available.
