River's Edge Wilderness Camping

Sled Dog Adventures Tasmania offers a unique range of dryland dog sled tour options during the winter season. Located just a one-hour drive south of Hobart, the tours are based at the majestic grounds of the River's Edge Wilderness Campground. Meet working sled dogs, learn about the history of the sled dog kennel, and then be guided either through magical temperate forests as part of a Forest Tour option or around the trails of the campground as part of the Slde Dog Experience Session behind a team of 8 to 10 siberian huskies. On arrival you will be able to keep warm by the campfire and enjoy complimentary hot drinks and biscuits during your tour session to take the chill away. This activity is suitable for all ages and abilities.

This is the dairy farm owned and operated by Bruny Island Cheese Co. and the milk produced here makes some of the best and most interesting cheeses in the country. The farm is a showcase of sustainable, small-scale, organic dairy farming that is all about maximising animal welfare and milk quality. The dairy herd is made up of three breeds, all of which are no longer considered commercially viable: Brown Swiss, Australian Dairy Shorthorn and Normande - all excellent dual-purpose breeds for both cheesemaking and beef production. Our farm is unlike almost every other dairy farm in Australia. Not being part of the industrial dairy system means that we are able to make choices about how we farm which commercial dairy farms do not have the privilege to make. That makes our farm something we are incredibly proud of.

Walk amongst the Highland Cattle, feed the friendly alpacas and go for an ATV farm tour at Highland Getaway in the Huon Valley. It's an amazing experience. Bring your cameras to get some selfies with the animals. The Highland cattle love having their photo taken and the alpacas are always happy for a feed. You'll go for a ride in Julie's 6 seater ATV around the 127 acre property to see the Highlands. Then back up to the Homestead for some refreshments. It's roughly two and a half hours altogether. Boots will be supplied for biosecurity. Tours are available for $110 per person (with children at discounted rates).
