'Realm' is an extraordinary exhibition showcasing the remarkable talents of father and daughter duo, Christopher Selby and Michaela Boon. Christopher, who has been carving and painting since childhood, embraced his passion as a full-time artist at the age of 50. He is renowned for his captivating representations of Australian animals, brought to life in specialised Tasmanian timbers. Each piece of timber inspires Christopher, who masterfully unveils the beauty hidden within. Michaela Boon’s artistic journey is deeply rooted in her early experiences of Tasmania’s natural wonders. Her childhood was filled with exploration, from crawling over lichen-covered rocks and moss-laden trees in the island’s national parks to swimming in pristine waters beneath cascading waterfalls. With her father as a mentor and her mother’s unwavering support, Michaela has honed her artistic skills over the past eight years. Her achievements include a large screen-print project at St Giles in Launceston, a vibrant children’s mural at the old LGH, and a growing portfolio of paintings that have been sold both interstate and internationally. Woolmers Estate stands as a living testament to Tasmania’s convict history, offering a deeply immersive experience into the world of the 19th-century Convict Assignment System. Once a thriving estate, and one of Australia's finest examples of a pioneer farm, it was built by Thomas Archer and maintained by the hands of assigned convicts who worked alongside free settlers. Many of these convicts chose to stay on at Woolmers even after gaining their freedom. The collection of original buildings at Woolmers Estate includes family accommodation, workers' cottages, a former chapel, blacksmith's shop, stables, bakehouse, pump house and gardener's cottage. But Woolmers Estate isn’t just about historic buildings and stunning landscapes; it’s about the human stories behind the history. Woolmers is a place where Tasmania’s farming and convict heritage comes to life.

Part of Tasmania's World Heritage Convict Sites, Brickendon Historic Farm and Convict Village is located just outside Longford, in Northern Tasmania. Built by William Archer in 1824, the Estate is still owned and farmed by his direct descendants, currently in their 7th generation. You have a rare chance to explore the convict-built Brickendon Farm Village with buildings including the quaint little Gothic chapel, Sussex barns, poultry shed, blacksmith shop, cookhouse and shearing shed. Whilst you are wandering, QR codes will provide a modern interpretation of the early convict history of the northern Tasmania. Hear the stories of the convicts Assigned to the Archer family and read about their lives. The Farm Village is also alive with a multitude of friendly farm animals with animal feeding daily at 10.15 am or purchase a bag of feed and wander at your leisure. The four-hectare historic garden surrounding the Georgian homestead, feature beds of old fashioned roses and perennials to complement the house's historic façade. Explore the 'garden rooms', each with their own mood and ambiance and stand beside the amazing 1830s English and exotic trees including oaks, elms, cedars and pines, sourced throughout the world. Overnight guests at Brickendon can stay at a number of historic or farm cottages and have free entry to all the attractions. Longford is about a 15-minute drive (27 km) from Launceston.
