Launceston Distillery
Western Junction
Nestled within the historic Hangar 17 at Launceston Airport, Launceston Distillery is Tasmania’s destination for hand-crafted single malt whisky. Built in 1932, this heritage-listed hangar – Tasmania’s oldest aviation building – once hosted Ansett-ANA and recalls an era of adventure and nostalgia. Today, it’s home to a boutique distillery, where everything from grain to bottle takes place under one roof.
On a guided tour, explore the distilling process and see the distinctive Tasmanian-made copper pot stills, designed with a unique reflux ball for a refined, smooth spirit. Crafted with Tasmanian malted barley and pure South Esk River water, the whiskies are rich in gentle, fruity, and floral notes – matured on-site in a range of oak casks for an elegant, nuanced finish.
Enjoy tastings of the core range, bottled at 46% ABV, and explore limited editions available at natural cask strength. Tours and tastings provide a truly memorable journey through the art of Tasmanian whisky-making.
Open Monday to Saturday, 10am - 4pm. Tastings are $15 per person, lasting 20 minutes, while one-hour tours, including a tasting, are available for $20 per person. Make the visit to Launceston Distillery an experience to remember with a taste of Tasmanian history and whisky craft at its finest
