The Fish Van located on Tasmania’s pristine East Coast sits just a few metres from the fleet of East Coast fishing vessels that call Triabunna home. They have access to the freshest fish available, most of which is caught only a stone's throw away in the unspoiled waters off Maria Island. Locally caught fresh fish and chips are cooked to your liking while you wait. Whether it is crumbed, battered, or grilled, we will cook your chosen fish to your liking. You can relax on our garden benches and watch the action surrounding the marina or take a walk around and look at the boats that bring your fish to our van. After your visit to the iconic Maria Island, you can hop off the ferry and walk straight up to the Fish Van. We also sell fresh fish and crayfish if you would like to take some home to cook yourself!

The unpredictable seas around Tasmania's coastline have claimed lives since the days of sail. This memorial on the waterfront at Triabunna is dedicated to all Tasmanian seafarers, civilians or members of the armed services, who have lost their lives at sea, and to all those, regardless of occupation, who lost their lives in Tasmanian waters. Plaques are fixed to the top of a low brick wall in the shape of the first Christian symbol, a fish, and the wall is surmounted by an anchor cross.

Encounter Maria Island is the official ferry operator to and from Maria Island National Park. All available sailings are listed on the website. Located off Tasmania’s East Coast, Maria Island is only about 30 minutes by ferry from Triabunna, and as far from ordinary as you can imagine. Rich in indigenous and European history, abundant in wildlife, boasting spectacular views and remarkable geological features, the entire island is a National Park, managed by the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service. There are no shops or fancy hotels, and limited places to charge your precious devices – so come prepared.
