It’s a good thing James Boag didn’t have much luck at the Victorian goldfields in 1853, because brewing world-class draughts, ales and lagers was a winning plan B.
Boag's hasn't always been available on the mainland, with its Premium Lager first to cross Bass Strait in 1994, followed by Boag's Draught 10 years later. Once confined to only the north of the state, it is these days pouring from taps in pubs and bars across Tasmania.
Once the old Tamar Hotel, the James Boag Brewery Bar is a three-storey museum and bar that’s been sitting pretty in Launceston since 2002. Visitors can get a tour of the basic brewing process (Wednesday to Sunday), including a guided tasting of three lagers and ales.
